Dr. Christopher Shaver
Dr. Christopher Shaver was born and raised in the foothills of the Appalachians in Greeneville, TN. He attended Greeneville High School where he graduated with high honors, and continued his education at the University of Tennessee – Knoxville (UTK). While majoring in biology and “pre-med” studies, he was a member of the University Honors Program, a brother of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity, held several positions within the Student Government Association and Interfraternity Council, and was a four year board member of the UT Ski and Snowboard Club.
Upon graduation as Magna Cum Laude from UTK, Dr. Shaver continued onto the University of Tennessee – Memphis, where he was again part of the Honors Program as an Named for Dr. Andrew D. (“Andy”) Holt, former President of the University of Tennessee, this is a four-year academic merit and leadership-based scholarship. a member of the Student Government Association, and his final year was elected to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
After medical school, he married his college sweetheart and moved to Greenville, South Carolina to practice his five year orthopaedic surgery residency at the Greenville Hospital Systems. During his five years, Dr. Shaver received training in all facets of both basic and advanced orthopaedic surgery. This included repair and treatment of complex trauma injury, joint replacement, hand surgery and pediatric conditions at Shriners Hospital for Children Greenville. It was during this time as his two eldest children were born, obviously changing his life forever!
After residency, Dr. Shaver completed a Sports Medicine fellowship at the University of Kentucky. This fellowship concentrated on advanced arthroscopic surgical procedures for repair and reconstruction of tendons, ligaments, cartilage, and bone of the knee and shoulder. He participated in multiple research studies and authored many published articles. During his fellowship, Dr. Shaver served as team physician for many of the University of Kentucky and Eastern Kentucky University sports teams. He also provided coverage for Kentucky State University, the Lexington Horsemen Arena League football team, and many area high schools.
Once residency and fellowship were completed, Dr. Shaver and his wife wanted to return to their “small town roots” to raise their family and build a medical practice. Becoming a partner with Tennessee Orthopaedic Clinic provided the perfect opportunity to do just that. He officially began practice in Lenoir City and West Knoxville at the Parkwest office in August 2009.
Dr. Shaver’s hobbies and interests are varied. Having grown up in East Tennessee, outdoors sports dominate most of them. He grew up an avid golfer, hiker, fly-fisherman, and thoroughly enjoys bird hunting. He also became extremely interested in snow skiing, which may be bit unusual for a southern boy! This hobby led him to become a member of the United States Ski team physician pool. He also currently provides medical coverage for Loudon County High School as well as several other regional high schools.
